Arizona's Oldest Mineral Society
THIS TRIP HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN
CANCELED
NEW INFORMATION:
I talked with Susan Dorris about our plans for the Smoky Hawk Mine. I was informed about these important factors:
1. Friday June 10 is set for the topaz claim. Each person (or family) is required to purchase at least one bag of gravel at $50 per bag. The bag will contain topaz, smoky quartz as well as amazonite. People can collect at the topaz claim all day. Visiting this claim is not optional. It is part of the trip, that is, if you sign up for the trip you are expected to collect/pay at the topaz claim.
2. Saturday June 11 is reserved for the Smoky Hawk Mine.
These are operational mines and are the only days available for visitors. We can accommodate 30 people on each claim; minimum is 20. The Smoky Hawk is free.
The road to the Smoky Hawk is strictly limited to 4WD. The claim owner will meet us along the road to the claim. If you do not have a 4WD vehicle you will not be allowed on the claim regardless of your personal experiences. I was also advised that people with physical limitations should not put themselves at risk due to the high altitude of the claim and the uneven terrain. If someone has a problem the claim owner will call a medical helicopter. This is at the expense of the victim. Children over the age of 10 are welcome but must be supervised by their parents.
Instructions on safety and other items for each claim is on our website pinnacle5minerals.com. Liability releases are also there and everyone has to sign one.
There is no camping allowed on either of the claims.
Due to the lack of feedback, these are the only places we will visit on this trip.
